Description
German. 1920s. The Fleischmann company began its history by producing tin toys (ships, planes, and magnetic swimming animals among other things). This continued through to the 1920s. In the 1930s, they turned their production to trains and railway-related toys. This ocean liner is rare and a survivor as it is one of the early toys made by Fleischmann. Once they moved production to primarily railroad toys, the early toys are now highly sought after and hard to find. The clockwork mechanism winds through the single smoke stack and the mechanism would drive the propeller. This would make a great addition to any toy collection. Marked, "Made in U.S. Zone, Germany", on lower port side.
Condition
Good condition. Clockwork motor tested and working. Shows overall age wear and playwear. Retains original 4 lifeboats and key. Rudder is loose. Propeller, front ladder, and rear flag need to be replaced. Noticeable paint loss to port and starboard sides (pilot likely docked too quickly).
Medium
Tinplate.
Provenance
From the Phil Barnett Collection.
