Description
Japanese. 1950s. Styled after the Buick Century, approximately 1955. Yonezawa (also known as "Yone" or "Y") was Japan's largest post-war toy manufacturer. The company's logo is a Y within a 5 petal cherry blossom motif. The cherry blossom was used as it symbolized both life and death, the sense of vitality and the reminder that life is fleeting - all very predominant in Japanese culture. A great toy for collectors of automobilia, Buick, station wagons, and Japanese toys in general. Marked, with Yonezawa trademark, on box. Embossed, on underside. Marked, "Buick", on wheel covers.
Condition
Excellent overall condition. Some minor oxidation to the wheel covers. One minor pinpoint nick to the rocker panel beneath the passenger side rear door. Minor oxidation to the front grill and bumper. Wear around the tailgate. Tears to the box top. Some pencil writing on the box top and on one end.
Medium
Lithographed tin.
Provenance
From the Phil Barnett Collection.
