ARTIST
Joe Lloyd (1937-2011) was an Ontario-based sculptor and woodcarver. He was born near Napanee, Ontario and eventually settled in Brantford where he began carving seriously in the 1970s. Lloyd's subject matter evolved from wildlife carving of fish, bear, and birds, into human figures, which he then began to place in small, intricately detailed scenes. Typical subjects of Joe’s sculptures are sports figures, cowboys, super heroes, soldiers, and domestic scenes. He worked in small scale and with great detail.

Description
Brantford, Ontario. Last quarter 20th century. Joe Lloyd is well known for his highly detailed vignettes of everyday life, which are filled with humour and warmth. The familiar character, Santa Claus, is about to climb down a chimney, and rather than being jolly, he seems to express the seriousness of his job. As with all of Joe Lloyd's work, the piece is finely detailed. Signed, on top of base.

Good condition. Minor scuffs and paint loss. Small age crack through the body.
