David P. Stephens is a contemporary artist from Sydney, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. A full-time artist since 1984, he has been passionate about art since childhood. Through experimentation and a trial-and-error approach, he developed a love for process and materials, often using non-traditional items like found objects and automotive paint. This unique methodology allows him to explore various cultural concepts, including popular culture, gender, and the intersections of fine, folk, and outsider art.

Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. 1990. Purity of form and a great paint job distinguish this cat resting contentedly with his front paws tucked under himself, by David Stephens. David is one of the founders of the Nova Scotia Folk Art Festival and is widely admired and collected. Signed, "David P. Stephens, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia" and dated "Dec 10/90", on the bottom in pencil.
