Shelburne, Nova Scotia. Last quarter 20th century. Eli Whiteway is best known for his carvings of flowers and animals, and dioramas of life. This is a rare example of a raised image of a bird applied to a painted landscape background. Dramatic and colourful. Similar form to the example on page 61 of Ray Cronin's, "Nova Scotia Folk Art, An Illustrated Guide." Signed, "Eli Whiteway," lower right.
