ARTIST
Barry Colpitts, a carver from Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore, has been active for over two decades. Beginning in 1989, he started carving small pieces in his home, each with its unique story, using a chainsaw and crooked knife to bring his visions to life. Colpitts' art adorns his house, yard, shop, and truck, often depicting family, friends, and animals. His whimsical creations, from mermaids to whirligigs, are highly sought after, showcased at various festivals and galleries, including the Lunenburg Folk Art Festival, Seacoast Trail Arts Association, and Argyle Fine Art. Colpitts' work can be found in the Nova Scotia Art Gallery's permanent collection. His carvings added charm to the set of the 2009 film "Nova Scotia Whirligigs."

East Ship Harbour, Nova Scotia. Last quarter 20th century. An alluring mermaid in a strongman pose with excellent colour. Signed, on left hip.

Very nice original condition. No breaks or repairs. Mermaid will come off of the stand.
