ARTIST
Eddie Mandaggio (1927-2020) was a carver and painter based in Nova Scotia. Early in life, he worked in northern Manitoba and Ontario as a trapper and as a hunting and fishing guide. He moved to Nova Scotia in 1951, where he worked on the railroad and in lumber camps. Mandaggio began carving in the early 1970s, and later took up painting. His work consists primarily of animals and birds. He has been the subject of numerous articles about folk art, and is also featured in "Folk Art Found Me"; a National Film Board of Canada production released in 1994. Mandaggio stopped carving in 2003, and his work is becoming increasingly difficult to find.

Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. 1998. Eddie Mandaggio is mostly known for his sculpture, largely of birds and animals, but later in his career he also produced some paintings which were all straightforward (almost childlike), containing his unique type of creative energy. An oil on board painting of a green homestead. Signed and dated, "1998", on the front, left bottom corner.
