Description
Picton, Ontario. 1855-1864. Samuel Skinner was the second in a succession of potters to operate the business in Picton that was originally founded by William Hart in 1859. During his tenure, the business produced some of its best decorations and examples of these birds are scarce and highly prized by collectors. This one is stunning with great detail in the bird and the addition of a strong decorative element below. Stamped, "S. Skinner & Co. / Picton. C.W.". Capacity mark, "2", in cobalt script.
Condition
Very good condition, with only a 4" section of chipping on the inside rim edge (lid seat) and a 1/4" thin flake on upper rim edge.
Medium
Salt-glazed stoneware.
Provenance
From the Jon Church Collection.
