Description
American. 1890s. The Diamond Dyes company dominated the dye market circa 1900. Products were sold in these wood stand up display cabinets with tin advertising inserts depicting colourful scenes of life and children from the late Victorian era. This piece reflects a Victorian view of women along with advertising the Diamond Dyes colors offered here. The colorful front was intended to draw the customer in to select the color of dye while the clerk could access the product from the back of the cabinet. Marked, "The Kellogg & Bulkeley Co H'F'D CT", lower right edge.
Condition
Cabinet has original surface with some surface loss to top. Tin panel on the cabinet with crazing, oxidation, and some wear. Surface is tight with no active flaking. Some surface loss around the perimeter. Retains 2 shelves, no dividers present.
