Description
French. Pre 1881. Blais Bontems was a master French clockmaker who in time became a master crafter of mechanical birds. Bontems retired from creating automata in 1881, making this piece pre 1981. Bontems "birds" were famous for the realism and authenticity of their warbling song. The birds were natural and elegant in their movement. This blue bird moves his head and tail effortlessly, warbling a crisp and authentic sound. A charming and hard to find piece. Includes crank-style winding key.
