Marshalltown, Nova Scotia. The Covered Bridge with blue loops for shadowing is almost certainly the second half of 1965. Covered Bridge in Winter is one of Lewis' most successful serial images. This striking work, featuring two horses in Winter pulling a sleigh towards a covered bridge, appeared on a commemorative Canadian postage stamp in 2020 marking the 50th anniversary of her death. This image has become an icon of Lewis, and her works. Signed, "Maud Lewis", recto, lower right.
Condition
Excellent condition. Minor surface wear to the upper left edge of the artist board. Mounted to a canvas-backed frame.
