Description
Toronto, Canada. C. 1891. This is a Conservative Party of Canada Election poster lithograph warning against the costs of operating a large Liberal Party government. A farmer is shown having their profits seized by a tax official who, by no accident, resembles Richard John Cartwright (1835 - 1912), a former Conservative House of Commons member who "crossed the floor" to join the Liberal Party and advocate for closer ties to the US. Marked, "Published by the Industrial League, Frederic Nicholls, Hon. Sec.", in bottom margin, "Toronto Lith Co", at bottom-right.
