Description
Marshalltown, Nova Scotia. Early 1960s. A strong and vibrant Maud Lewis harbour scene. Three mischievous gulls set the tone in this tranquil harbour scene shown at midday. Lewis was captivated by the harbour and here she makes use of striking reflections in the water to make the scene come alive. The man in a boat rigging near the wharf adds a further level of interest and distinction. Signed, "Lewis" lower right. Marked with framer's stamp and dated, "May 16/67" on reverse.
Condition
In very good condition. Vibrant and bold colours. There is one pin point mounting perforation, at the extreme upper edge centre surrounded by a ring (presumably a tack). Some staining and discoloration, verso.
Medium
Mixed media on pulpboard (beaver board).
Provenance
Ex. Alan Deacon. From a private west coast collection.
