ARTIST
Eddie Mandaggio (1927-2020) was a carver and painter based in Nova Scotia. Early in life, he worked in northern Manitoba and Ontario as a trapper and as a hunting and fishing guide. He moved to Nova Scotia in 1951, where he worked on the railroad and in lumber camps. Mandaggio began carving in the early 1970s, and later took up painting. His work consists primarily of animals and birds. He has been the subject of numerous articles about folk art, and is also featured in "Folk Art Found Me"; a National Film Board of Canada production released in 1994. Mandaggio stopped carving in 2003, and his work is becoming increasingly difficult to find.

Description
Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. 4th quarter 20th century. A large and impressive carving of a grey goose by Nova Scotia master folk artist, Eddie Mandaggio. Painted in white, black, tan and grey enamel with metal eyes. On the underside, it is apparent the feet have been repositioned forward from their original placement, likely done by the artist upon discovering the original placement caused the piece to tip. Signed "Edward Mandaggio" on top of foot.
Condition
Good condition with small tight and stable crack along underbody. Feet have been refastened.
