ARTIST
Eddie Mandaggio (1927-2020) was a carver and painter based in Nova Scotia. Early in life, he worked in northern Manitoba and Ontario as a trapper and as a hunting and fishing guide. He moved to Nova Scotia in 1951, where he worked on the railroad and in lumber camps. Mandaggio began carving in the early 1970s, and later took up painting. His work consists primarily of animals and birds. He has been the subject of numerous articles about folk art, and is also featured in "Folk Art Found Me"; a National Film Board of Canada production released in 1994. Mandaggio stopped carving in 2003, and his work is becoming increasingly difficult to find.

Description
Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. 4th quarter 20th century. A strongly graphic Eddie Mandaggio folk art carving of a duck with outstreched wings. Brightly painted in enamel colours. Signed bodly on the foot as was his custom. Shrinkage cracks, such as the one on the length of the underside, are typical and common of most Nova Scotia folk art as it ages and do not generally adversely affect the piece. Signed "Eddie Mandaggio" on top of foot.

Good condition. Repair to tail feathers. Small shrinkage cracks in body and on underside.
