Avonport, Nova Scotia. 2000. Phyllis Cosman (1927 - 2020) took up carving around 1984. Her work consists almost exclusively of small polychrome carvings of people from her community. Her people all have a look like they might be from the same family Phyllis was not a prolific carver and by 1996 she output was limited because of arthritis, and thus her work is becoming increasingly difficult to find. Here we have a charming portrait of a mother and child Signed "P. Cosman, 2000" under base.
