Albert Bridge, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. C. 1975. Sid Howard (1913 - 1992) is widely recognized as one of Nova Scotia's most important "1st generation" carvers who's work consistently shows a directness and integrity of uncommon proportion. This large and impressive sheep is a significant presence in any space he occupies. Unsigned, but bought from the artist. Carved from softwood with glass eyes. As with most Nova Scotia folk art of this age it has some shrinkage cracks, all of which are stable.
