Rene Dandurand (born 1934) is a sculptor and woodcarver from Valleyfield, Quebec, active during the late 20th century. His artistic journey began with a preference for pine and, on rare occasions, butternut as his chosen medium. Dandurand often sculpted from single blocks or rounds of wood, initially creating unpainted pieces. What distinguishes Dandurand's work is the collaborative effort with his wife and partner, Julienne, who expertly painted his creations. Her mastery of colour added a unique dimension to his sculptures. Dandurand's carvings capture the entire spectrum of the human experience, always infused with a generous dose of humor. His artistic vision exudes joyfulness, portraying people engrossed in the activities of daily life. With evocative, charming, and colourful compositions, Rene Dandurand stands as one of Quebec's most gifted artists. His late start in carving, after retiring as a machinist, led to the creation of intricate and elaborate pieces, incorporating figures, foliage, and animals to convey complete narratives.

Rene Dandurand carved every aspect of the human condition and always with great humour. There is a joyfulness in his vision. His carvings are always evocative, charming and full of colour. His wife, Julienne Dandurand, was responsible for painting all of his works. Signed "Rene Dandurand" on side of base.
