A finely crafted Nova Scotia dovetailed deed box in original paint with the top having a chip-carved sawtooth border framing a scrolled dart and vine carved motif. The dark original surface is finely crazed and the details are accented with coral paint. Very good condition with original hinges, lock and key. The bail handle is original with back plates replaced and the interior till is missing the fitted side. Minor abrasions. Ex Henry Dobson, Meiklejohn collection. Nova Scotia, early 19th century.
