Description
Lot of two spruce gum barrels, the first being profusely chip carved and in a worn dark varnished surface. The mid section is carved with two joined zig-zag bands while the rest is carved with hourglass motifs and multi-pointed stars. Minor age splits, one "tooth" replaced on top edge, lid missing. The second inclusion is also hollowed out from a single block and in original dark surface having three pairs of incised hearts between the incised barrel hoops. Minor age cracks and the top lid is missing. Both are Nova Scotia, 19th century.
