Description
Canadian. 1891. Trader banks were given to families to encourage the practice of saving. Once coins were inserted, only the Trader's Bank representative could unlock the bank to deposit the coins. As a savings device, it proved to be an unwieldy process and the program was quickly abandoned. Following this, many of the banks were said to have been destroyed. The inner metal box insert has four compartments, each bearing a different stamped number to identify different members of the family or depositors. Marked, "Property of the Trader's Bank of Canada Registered by AE Jarvis, 1891, The Trader's Bank Sole Licensee", on top.

Retains all finials, patina, and wear to the nickel-plated surface. Retains inner metal box and ramps.
