Ransford Naugler (born 1953), known affectionately as "Mountie," embarked on his journey as a sculptor, woodcarver, and painter in the 1980s. Before venturing into the world of art, Naugler held various jobs, from working as a deckhand on a fishing boat to carpentry and maintenance work. Alongside his brothers, Leo and Bradford, who are also celebrated folk artists, Naugler has made a significant mark in the art world. His impressive work, which often includes life-sized figures, has been showcased on numerous television programs and featured in documentaries like "In the Genes" and "Folk Art Found Me." His creations can be found in both private and public collections, including the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, The Canadian Museum of Civilization, and the personal collection of the Rt. Hon. Adrienne Clarkson, Canada's 26th Governor General. Ransford Naugler continues to be an integral part of the Lunenburg Festival, where his art is celebrated year after year.

Description

Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. 2010. Ransford Naugler paints a lakeside scene in bright acrylic on masonite depicting a church, fish, sailboats, and various active people, all in primary colours. The frame, like the sky is painted blue with jumping green fish, geese, and other people adorning the edges. On the back Ransford has written “Fish Can't Be Smoked "Wile" There Jumpin”. Ransford, like Leo and Bradford, is widely collected and has been shown at the Lunenburg Festival for many years. Signed, "Ransford Naugler 2010", at lower right.
