Ransford Naugler (born 1953), known affectionately as "Mountie," embarked on his journey as a sculptor, woodcarver, and painter in the 1980s. Before venturing into the world of art, Naugler held various jobs, from working as a deckhand on a fishing boat to carpentry and maintenance work. Alongside his brothers, Leo and Bradford, who are also celebrated folk artists, Naugler has made a significant mark in the art world. His impressive work, which often includes life-sized figures, has been showcased on numerous television programs and featured in documentaries like "In the Genes" and "Folk Art Found Me." His creations can be found in both private and public collections, including the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, The Canadian Museum of Civilization, and the personal collection of the Rt. Hon. Adrienne Clarkson, Canada's 26th Governor General. Ransford Naugler continues to be an integral part of the Lunenburg Festival, where his art is celebrated year after year.

Description

Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. 2007. Ransford Naugler created a scene depicting a hockey game on a frozen white pond. Players are dressed in primary colours and hold equally colourful hockey sticks. It is a bright, sunny winter day with a pair of black geese flying overhead. Ransford Naugler was the first of the three brothers to later begin sculpting. He, like Leo and Bradford, is widely collected and has shown at the Lunenburg Festival for many years. Signed, "Ransford Naugler 07", at lower right.
