ARTIST
Pierre Corriveau (1889-1980), was a mid-20th century sculptor from St.-Etienne-des-Gres, Mauricie, Quebec. He crafted an impressive array of animal and bird carvings and mechanical devices using 'as found' materials and vibrant colors. His yard, once transformed into a captivating wonderland, bore testament to his creative prowess. Assisted by his son Armand Corriveau (1925-2011) and later his grandson Robert (1950-), Pierre's legacy lives on. Using scrap wood and metal, along with sapling tree branches and recycled tin, Pierre Corriveau breathed life into his creations. His works featured marbles for the eyes and were known for their vivid colors. Although unsigned, Pierre Corriveau's artistry earned him recognition on the cover of 'Les Patenteux du Quebec,' with an extensive article dedicated to his remarkable contributions.

Description
Canadian. Fourth-quarter 20th century. An interesting folk art carving of a deer that also resembles a giraffe with a long neck. The body is painted in white with brown spots throughout. The legs and tail are formed from sticks, and the head and neck are carved from a naturally curved branch attached to a plain green base. The piece is unsigned.
