Eddie Mandaggio (1927-2020) was a carver and painter based in Nova Scotia. Early in life, he worked in northern Manitoba and Ontario as a trapper and as a hunting and fishing guide. He moved to Nova Scotia in 1951, where he worked on the railroad and in lumber camps. Mandaggio began carving in the early 1970s, and later took up painting. His work consists primarily of animals and birds. He has been the subject of numerous articles about folk art, and is also featured in "Folk Art Found Me"; a National Film Board of Canada production released in 1994. Mandaggio stopped carving in 2003, and his work is becoming increasingly difficult to find.

Description
Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. C. 1990. An Eddie Mandaggio carving of a whimsical Ring-necked Pheasant brightly painted in unusual blue, ochre, and brown with red-ringed eyes and beak. A white neck ring completes this fanciful bird standing on its own duck-like brown feet. Signed, "Eddie Mandaggio", in black paint on the feet.
