Description
Lower Prospect, Halifax County, Nova Scotia. 1993. Joe Norris painted the world in which he lived; that of Halifax, Nova Scotia and its environs. For the rest of us, we get a glimpse into his personal life and the life of fishermen. "Hauling the Herring Nets" is painted with a lighthouse in typical red and white, along with five colourful fishing boats trolling the bright blue waters off the point. A small brig sailing ship with white sails and a jet-black hull ply the waters in the lower right corner. A man, possibly Joe himself, stands below the lighthouse land. The piece retains its original painted frame decorated with bright potted flowers. Signed and dated, "Joe Norris 1993", to lower right. Frame inscribed "F6299 Hauling the Herring Nets".
