Stanley Rector (1943-2020), hailing from Southampton, Nova Scotia, was a second-generation folk artist following in the footsteps of his renowned father, Thomas Rector. Early in his life, Rector worked as work as a woodsman, coal miner, lobster fisherman, and truck driver. Later, he found steady employment with Harrisons Building Supplies, where he worked until his retirement. In the late 1980s, Rector embarked on a new journey as a woodcarver. His artistic focus predominantly centered on crafting people, occasionally venturing into depictions of birds and bears engaged in various activities. Stanley Rector and his father became fixtures at the Nova Scotia Folk Art Festival, where they gained recognition for their iconic stick men creations.

Southampton, Cumberland County, Nova Scotia. C. 1990. This is a fun carving of a Toronto Maple Leaf player outfitted in their dark blue and white uniform on an integral plain base. Stanley Rector is the son of Nova Scotia folk artist Thomas Rector. Signed, "Stanley Rector", on bottom of base.
