Lucien Dompierre (1931-2013) was a sculptor and woodcarver from Laval, Quebec, active in the mid to late 20th century. Initially working as a pipe fitter, he discovered his passion for carving around the age of 50. Following his retirement, Dompierre taught sculpting well into his 70s. Dompierre primarily worked with Basswood, creating relief carvings and carvings in the round. His subjects often included popular figures like film stars, politicians, and individuals from various trades. His sculptures were characterized by meticulous paintwork and frequently featured attached metal labels for added detail. Dompierre's art gained recognition in both Canada and abroad, a testament to the broad appeal of his finely crafted sculptures. His legacy as a late-blooming artist who made a significant impact on woodcarving endures to this day.

Laval, Quebec. C. 1990. A Lucien Dompierre carving of the iconic Charlie Chaplin with his signature black moustache holding a white cane and clad in his traditional black suit with a hat, tie, and gloves all in dark grey. The figure is mounted to a natural round base. Engraved, "Lucien Dompierre, Sculpteur", brass plaque on base.
