ARTIST
Joe Lloyd (1937-2011) was an Ontario-based sculptor and woodcarver. He was born near Napanee, Ontario and eventually settled in Brantford where he began carving seriously in the 1970s. Lloyd's subject matter evolved from wildlife carving of fish, bear, and birds, into human figures, which he then began to place in small, intricately detailed scenes. Typical subjects of Joe’s sculptures are sports figures, cowboys, super heroes, soldiers, and domestic scenes. He worked in small scale and with great detail.

Description
Brantford, Ontario. 2005. Using tricks of perception, this entertainment diorama recreates a stunning vegetable market in artistic form. Figures are painted in pale pastel tones and mounted to a painted wood base. The whimsical scene is reminiscent of market days everywhere. Signed, "Joe Lloyd, Brantford Ont." and dated, "2005" on top of base.
