Barbara Clark Fleming (born 1939) grew up on a farm near Hickson in southwestern Ontario, and traces her love of the farm animals, which dominate her paintings, to that childhood environment. With no formal art training, Clark-Fleming set out on the painting path in the late 1970s because she wanted to preserve an image of the home farm, stating “There were no pictures of the house and the barn and I didn't want to forget it. So, I decided to paint it.” She found success in her artistic career, with interest from art collectors and antique dealers sparking her popularity. Her paintings are included in many collections in Canada, the USA and Europe including the Museum of American Folk Art, New York.

Description

Oxford County, Ontario. 2009. A joy-filled day is ahead for brightly painted children in an orange-coloured sled drawn by two white horses with black tack. Rusty-coloured cows and pure white sheep form the background against a heritage barn painted in browns and greys. Another figure dressed in blue and red is being drawn on a sleigh by a pony. The colours are vibrant against a natural wooden frame. Signed, "Barbara Clark Fleming", lower right front. Titled, "Kids Having Fun". Signed and dated "2009", on back.
