Barbara Clark Fleming (born 1939) grew up on a farm near Hickson in southwestern Ontario, and traces her love of the farm animals, which dominate her paintings, to that childhood environment. With no formal art training, Clark-Fleming set out on the painting path in the late 1970s because she wanted to preserve an image of the home farm, stating “There were no pictures of the house and the barn and I didn't want to forget it. So, I decided to paint it.” She found success in her artistic career, with interest from art collectors and antique dealers sparking her popularity. Her paintings are included in many collections in Canada, the USA and Europe including the Museum of American Folk Art, New York.

Oxford County, Ontario. C. 2010. A delightful winter scene of a wonderful horse-drawn sleigh on a beautiful snowy day. A family is out for an afternoon ride while their dog runs alongside the team of horses painted in roan brown. In the background are farm buildings in equally bright primary colours against a medium-blue sky. Signed, "Barbara Clark Fleming" lower right corner. Signed and titled au verso.
