Description
Marshalltown, Nova Scotia. A naive painting of three black cats all in a row against a lime-green grassy landscape. The cats themselves are jet black with bright yellow eyes. The cats are whimsically surrounded by tulips while apple blossoms arch over their heads. Maud loved to paint cats. By having no preconceived notions about art, she embodied the free spirit of artists working outside of the mainstream and tradition. The results of her paintings bring joy and simplicity to the viewer's life. "The Three Black Cats" is a serial image seen only in the 1960s. The width of this work is much larger than normal, making it a rarity. Signed, "Lewis", right edge. Framed marked, "Kittens", on verso. Frame marked, "2", in multiple places. Masonite marked, "2", verso.

Excellent condition. Paint is strong.
