Description
A naive religious picture frame in original two-tone varnish with shaped sides and a top rail having a standing cross at the centre flanked by two curled "ears". The cross and frame in dark varnish are enhanced with applied details in light varnish including a cross with a stepped base, hearts, and sun rosettes. Note how the two halves of the frame are a mirror image of each other -- the "IHS" being reversed on the right side. All in a crazed surface, one ear replaced. Quebec, c1920.

Cadre religieux naïf en vernis bicolore d'origine, côtés chantournés et traverse supérieure ayant une croix dressée au centre flanquée de deux volutes sculptées. La croix et le cadre en vernis foncé sont rehaussés de motifs appliqués en vernis clair dont une croix à base étagée, des cœurs et des soleils. Notez comment les deux moitiés du cadre sont une image miroir l'une de l'autre - le "IHS" étant inversé sur le côté droit. Surface craquelée, une volute remplacée. Québec, vers 1920.
