Oil on canvas, Canadian School, "The Infant Saint John the Baptist with a Lamb" after Spanish artist Bartolemé-Esteban Murillo (1617-1682). Many Quebec artists, including Antoine Plamondon (1804-1895) and his apprentice Théophile Hamel (1817-1870), honed their skills painting classic European works. This is likely a work by Hamel who is known to have specifically studied paintings by Bartolemé Murillo while in Europe in the 1840s (reference Early Painters and Engravers in Canada by J. Russell Harper). In untouched condition, unframed, with craquelure and some very minor flaking. Quebec, c1850.

Huile sur toile, École Canadienne, "Saint Jean Baptiste enfant avec un agneau" d'après l'artiste espagnol Bartolemé-Esteban Murillo (1617-1682). De nombreux artistes québécois, dont Antoine Plamondon (1804-1895) et son apprenti Théophile Hamel (1817-1870) ont perfectionné leurs compétences en peignant des œuvres européennes classiques. Très probablement une œuvre de Hamel, connu pour avoir spécifiquement étudié les peintures de Bartolemé Murillo lors de son séjour en Europe dans les années 1840 (référence Early Painters and Engravers in Canada par J. Russell Harper). Dans un état d'origine, non encadré, avec des craquelures et quelques écaillages très mineurs. Québec, vers 1850.
