Description
Two (2). American. 1875-1900. Tin. Container 1: "The Intelligent Can" tin kerosene container, one gallon size. Metal strap handle in additon to a bale handle. Double spout and twist top. In the middle of the can is a surviving paper label showing a Victorian lady utilizing the can to refill lamps. The top of the label reads, "Patent Intelligent Can Co. Boston", and below the woman are the directions for use. Container 2: “Slick Oil Can” galvanized metal kerosene container. Bale handle. Colourful label on side of can featuring a woman pumping oil into a lamp with instructions for operation. Container 1: “The Intelligent Can” and “PAT.JAN.15th. 1889” embossed on front of can. Container 2: "PAT’d.1896” embossed on can.
Condition
Container 1: Denting to body. Very good condition, minor scratches and dings from use, the label retains bright color.
