Description
Canadian. 1820s. Mahogany. Martin Cheney (1778-1855). The Cheney name is one of the earliest and best known in both Canadian and American clockmaking. Cheney produced "elegant house clocks" in Windsor, Vermont for six years before moving to Montreal in 1809 where he continued his practice. A clock made at his Windsor address currently resides in the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. Dial signed, "M. Cheney". Remnants of the original manufacturers label remain within the inside of the case.
Condition
Original finish. This clock was running at the time of cataloguing, but its service history is unknown.
