Description
Saint John, New Brunswick. 1820s. Mahogany, white pine, brass. Bone or ivory escutcheon. Fine and rare Georgian period Canadian breakfast table in mahogany and figured mahogany. The triple beaded edge top with two drop leaves, each with double supports and a drawer to each end. The top frame supported on four turned and acanthus carved supports above a concave shaped plinth which is supported upon for carved and reeded legs with original lions paw brass castors. This table has all of the typical features used by Nisbet. Retaining rich patina thoughout. No makers label apparent.
Condition
Excellent condition. Drawers at each end with mortised ends. each drawer with circular marks where knobs were added and later removed. Minor (and typical) shrinkage cracks to the veneered plinth. Minor wood loss visible near hinge.
