Description
Waterloo County, Ontario. Ca: 1870. Cherry, figured maple. Pine and basswood secondary woods. Two-part glazed bureau bookcase with secret compartments. Made of cherry with figured maple to the interior drawers and central prospect door. The bottom section with original wooden drawer pulls and ebonizing to the drawer edges. Empire influence in the scrolled columns and feet. The desk interior is lined with oil cloth. Secret book-form drawers covered with gold tooled leather bear the name "Carl Boehmer" on both drawers. The upper section with glazed doors of motise and tenon construction, each with nine lights and having pointed gothic arches. Interior shelves line up with the glazing bars. Egg and dart moulding within the cornice. Both section of the desk feature applied ripple mouldings. Signature on side of drawer appears to be "Chas. Boehmer"
