Description
Canadian. Marshalltown, Nova Scotia Ca: 1956. Oil on beaverboard. Docking at the Harbour by Maud Lewis. In this early and less common serial image, Lewis depicts the importance of the Nova Scotian harbour. The effect of the lighthouse backdrop is enhanced with the close proximity of a docking boat with large perched seagulls in action. There is a remarkable balance to this image, punctuated by bold reds, blues and yellows that made Maud Lewis famous. Signed, "Lewis" lower right.
Condition
Good condition. There is a slight warp and evidence of water related staining on the reverse. Very subtle staining to the blue water above the rear end of the boat.
Medium
Oil on beaverboard.
Provenance
Purchased in the 1940s or 1950s. This painting belonged to the current owner's grandmother. The winner will be provided with a letter of authenticity.
