Canadian. Marshalltown, Nova Scotia. Ca: 1968 Oil on beaverboard. Two Oxen in Winter by Maud Lewis. Two Oxen in Winter is a serial image that spans three decades. Lewis drew on her childhood experiences to create such adorable ‘beasts of burden’ in this Winter scene. With their enticing eyes, the oxen evoke an undeniable ‘draw’ to the admirer as well. Signed "Maud. Lewis", lower right.
Condition
Good condition. Fine parallel curvilinear scratches originate at the left shoulder of the left ox, and terminate that the lower left leg of the ox on the right. Uniform toning (possibly nicotine) as evidenced by the portion of the perimeter protected by the frame.
