American. 1860s. Softwood, tin, brass, rope. Rare wall mounted retractable clothesline. Of ogee profile with a sloping lid. Brass ratchet mechanism on one side. In original dark green paint with red pinstripe accents. Original manila rope inside. Stencilled, "The Doust Patent".
Condition
Some loss beneath the edge of the lid.
