Description
American. 1897. Lithographed paper. Winchester began issuing an advertising calendar each year beginning in 1887 following its rival, The Union Metallic Cartridge Company of Bridgeport, Connecticut. It has continued to produce a calendar each year to this day. Features artwork signed by famed illustration artist A.B. Frost titled, "A Chance Shot" and "An Interrupted Dinner". Marked, "Copyright 1896 by Winchester Repeating Arms Co., New Haven, Conn" and "Forbes Co., Boston" lower left and right edge.
Condition
Missing calendar pad. Shows three heavy horizontal creases with minor associated surface losses. The calendar is curled from rolled storage. An isolated instance of surface delamination is evident just above where the calendar pad was fixed. Light soiling and fly dirt on surface. Original metal banding on top and bottom edges; the top with hanging loop in place.
