Description
Canadian. Marshalltown, Nova Scotia. Late 1967. Oil on beaverboard. Horse Pulling Logs by famed Nova Scotia Folk Artist Maud Lewis. Horse Pulling Logs is a serial image. Here, Maud embellishes a chocolate brown Clydesdale or Percheron with a dazzling mane, tail and feathering of pink. On this very postcard-perfect cold winter day with an almost cloudless blue sky, Lewis boldly captures a favourite subject of logs loaded on the bobsled. The horse looks very set in its way. Did the driver stop intentionally or is the horse calling the shots? Signed lower right edge, "Maud. Lewis". Also, Maud's actual fingerprint appears on the lower edge.
