Description
Marshalltown, Nova Scotia. c.1965. Oil on beaverboard. A Sandy Cove harbour scene by famed Nova Scotia folk artist Maud Lewis. Sandy Cove is a serial image that spans three decades. This work features Sandy Cove along Digby Neck in fall season. This is a rare example of a Lewis painting with a named location. Here, she has captured the nostalgia of the harbour in autumn with all of the elements important to her eye. The multi-coloured houses, autumn tree colours, blue water and seagulls along with a boat and green hills on the horizon all fit together in perfect harmony. Signed lower right, "Maud. Lewis". Written on reverse "Sandy Cove N.S. Jan '67".
