ARTIST
Nicholas Hornyansky (1896-1965) was a Canadian-Hungarian artist who specialized in depictions of historic architecture and landscapes. His early life revolved around the production of art, as he was assigned to mixing colors for his father's printing office. He went on to study painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest. During the 1920s, Hornyansky acquired technical knowledge of printmaking, specifically the complex process of aquatinting. Moving to Canada in 1929, he exhibited extensively, before becoming a celebrated contributor to the field of Canadian printmaking. His works are held in the collections of the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto and the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa.
