ARTIST
Edward Merle Franklin (1915-2008) was a noted decoy and shorebird carver from Dunnville, Ontario. He was also a long-time non-professional (avocational) archaeology enthusiast who collected indigenous artifacts. In 1939, he befriended the renowned Peter M. Pringle, a fellow pre-contact history enthusiast and collector in the Dunnville area. Pringle, known as the 'Master Decoy Maker' shared his skills with Franklin and the two spent many days collecting, hunting and carving together.

Two (2). Dunnville, Ontario. c1975. Pine, glass eyes. A finely carved and painted pair of Greater Scaup ducks (male and female) made by noted Dunnville, Ontario decoy and shorebird carver, Merle Franklin. Each have been signed on the back "Greater Scaup by Merle Franklin".
