Description
Canadian. 1890s. Nickel plated cast iron. It's believed that a Traders Bank competitor used a traders bank to make their own casting mold. All of the script seen on an actual traders bank, with the exception of the two words "The Bank", was blanked out in the mold so as not to appear on their own banks. These banks were given on loan to families to encourage the practice of saving. Once coins were inserted, only the bank's representative could unlock the bank to then deposit the coins. Retains internal coin box. Embossed, "The Bank", on the front panel above the upper windows. A corner section of the base plate is missing and there's a small area of material loss above one of the coin slots on the rear panel. Surface exhibits areas of moderate wear. From the Graham J.F. Jones Collection. 8.25" x 10" x 6".
