Canadian. Late 19th or early 20th C. Watercolour on paper. A coastline portrait by Maurice Galbraith Cullen. This is an excellent example of his Impressionist style of a lake bay with a wooded shore and subtly misty time of day. Signed with 'MC' monogram, lower left. Excellent condition. 16 x 17" Sight: 7 x 8.25". Maurice Galbraith Cullen (1866-1934). Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, he was greatly influenced by James Wilson Morrice and the Laurentians were a favourite subject often done 'in-situ.' He is considered to be the 'father' of Canadian Impressionism. From the Marty Osler Collection. $3500/5000.
