Description
Nova Scotia. Ca: 1870. A softwood painted document box with applied quatrefoil spade design applied to lid and front. The corners and sides are also decorated with single spade motifs. Green/black base colour with decoration in bright red. Original brass hinges, square nailed construction. The lid is slightly domed. There is an unusual carved out section on the interior of one end. Some paint wear and abrasions. Missing hooks and latches on the front. 14(H) x 16.75(L) x 9.75(D)". From the Jim Fleming Collection. $400/600.
