Description
Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Ca: 1920. Hardwood, with gray and green paint. A documented cane attributed to Willard MacKenzie. The top with compressed ball. Below are two well-carved painted bathers carrying what appears to be a basket overhead. Illustrated in Canadian Folk Art to 1950 (Rowan/Fleming pp. 368/383) with comments, "Willard McKenzie's sleek bathers with their ribbed ball, matching swimsuits, and background, seem anchored in art deco as a lifestyle". Good condition. 32.24(L) x 2(D)". From the Jim Fleming Collection. $4000/6000.
